Amazonite
is an alkali feldspar mineral, a potassium aluminum silicate with a hardness of 6 – 6.5. Its name derives from the Amazon River in Brazil, where there are deposits of the mineral. It is also found in India, Madagascar, Namibia, Russia and the USA. 
Amazonite is said to be a stone of harmony, both within the self and among others, assisting one in communicating one’s true thoughts and feelings. It can help to magnify our intentions by teaching us to speak the truth and help make what we speak come true. It can assist one in gaining clarity for those who feel they are out of touch with their truth and may assist one in attaining and maintaining personal balance when in relationships with others and the world in general.  Amazonite may be helpful in cell regeneration and healing after trauma or injury.
 
Agate is the name given to numerous varieties of banded chalcedony, a mineral of the Quartz group. Agates have a hardness of 7 and are found in various locations throughout the world. 
Agate was thought of as a protective and good luck stone in the ancient world.  It supports retreat and spiritualization. It encourages a calm and contemplative view of life and leads to spiritual maturity and growth, inner stability and a sense of reality.  Agate is said to provide protection, security and safety by dissolving internal tensions, and also allow one to better resist external influences.  Agate can enhance concentration and help to avoid distractions. 
 
Amethyst is a member of the Quartz family, has a hardness of 7 and is found throughout the world including Brazil, Bolivia, Mexico, Africa, Canada, Russia, the U.S.A. and Europe. It is associated with the Wind element and the Crown Chakra. 
In Tibet, amethyst is considered to be sacred to Buddha and rosaries are often fashioned from it. 
Amethyst is a stone of spiritual protection and purification. It can be an aid to curbing overindulgence and giving up bad habits. It can be used as an aid to meditation, helping one to still one’s thoughts and move into higher states of consciousness.  Amethyst is said to help in sadness and grief and lend support in coming to terms with loss. It can relieve pain and release tension especially tense headaches and may help with injuries, bruises and swellings.
 
Aquamarine belongs to the beryl mineral group which also includes Morganite and Emerald. The name aquamarine is derived from the Latin meaning “water of the sea”. It has been mined in Brazil, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Australia, Africa and the U.S. In ancient lore, Aquamarine was believed to be a treasure of mermaids, and it was used as a talisman to bring good luck, fearlessness and protection to sailors. 
Aquamarine is known as a stone of release. It can help to free oneself from attachments to old patterns, relationships and ways of being. The cleansing energy of Aquamarine can assist one in rapidly moving through transition and change, removing resistance and helping one overcome fear of the unknown.
 
Baltic Amber is fossilized resin, principally from extinct coniferous trees with a hardness of 2 – 2.5. The Baltic coast has been a source of amber for at least three millennia and it still produces 90 percent of the world’s amber. 
The ancient Greek term for amber was electron, a word referring to the sun. Amber encourages a sunny nature, and can help alleviate the symptoms of seasonal affective disorder or other depression based on light deprivation. 
Helps increase general vitality and energy levels. It is a protective stone as it can transform negativity into a source of clear energy.   Baltic Amber is believed to contain analgesic properties and may help take the edge off of many types of discomfort associated with dental issues, headaches, joint pain, etc. It is a well known European method to help decrease the pain associated with teething.
 
Carnelian (also referred to as cornelian) is a reddish orange translucent variety of chalcedony.  It gets its color from the presence of iron oxide and can be uniformly colored or banded.  Carnelian is said to aid those who wish to build confidence and courage and helps to overcome fear.  It may also help assist those who procrastinate to decide on a course of action.  It is said to assist in gaining vitality and energy.
 
Chrysoprase is a green Chalcedony, a member of the Quartz group with a hardness of 7. It is found in Australia, Brazil, Madagascar, South Africa and Russia. 
Chrysoprase is said to help one remain centered in the heart at all times, providing the courage to face difficult or threatening situations with steadfast resolve and truth centered compassion. It may help to give strength to the emotional heart and offer energetic support to the physical heart as well.  It is an excellent prosperity stone and a powerful love attractor. It can help to prepare the heart for a new relationship and allow one to overcome past disappointment. 
Chrysoprase is known as the “stone of youth” in that it can assist in maintaining a youthful spirit, outlook and energy. It can be helpful in recuperation from degenerative diseases of all types.
 
Citrine is a silicon dioxide mineral, a member of the Quartz group and has a hardness of 7. It has been found in Brazil, Africa, Madagascar, Spain, Russia, France, Scotland and the USA. 
Named from the French word for lemon, "citron" since citrine has a juicy lemon color. In ancient times, citrine was carried as a protection against snake venom and evil thoughts. This stone can help to lighten dark thoughts and bring optimism, playfulness and happiness into one’s energy systems. 
Citrine is said to activate the thinking process and enhance mental clarity. It can help to stimulate imagination and creativity. It may assist one in overcoming difficulty, maintaining effort through adversity and in taking decisive action to resolve difficult situations. Citrine can enhance physical stamina and energy. 
 
Garnet is an aluminum silicate with a hardness of 7.5. Found in Sri Lanka, India, Afghanistan, Brazil, Austria and the Czech Republic. 
Garnet can enhance one’s vitality and endurance. It is a good stone for those who are a bit ungrounded, or who lack energy. Almandine (Red) Garnet is said to be a stone of psychic protection. It can help cultivate a sense of physical security, safety and abundance. It can help alleviate worry, panic and fear and assist in maintaining a sense of calm and grounded connection to the present. 
Red Garnet can help one release panic, worry, fear and anxiety, especially around financial matters. It can teach one to develop trust in the infinite abundance of the universe and help one to feel calm and grounded.
 
Jade - The term Jade is applied to two different metamorphic rocks that are made up of different silicate minerals: Nephrite and Jadeite.
Nephrite is a calcium magnesium silicate with a hardness of 6. It is found in British Columbia, the USA, New Zealand, China, Russia, Taiwan, Poland and India.
Jade is a stone for healing the heart and for instilling a sense of well-being and balance. It is a classic abundance stone, representing the never-ending well of abundance that is the Universe. It is an Earth element stone, promoting the flow of money, fertility and abundance into one’s life. It represents harmony and happiness in relationships. Jade can encourage one to revel in and fully enjoy life.
 
Jasper is a chalcedony incorporating various amounts of other materials that give it both its opacity and color.  Red Jasper contains hematite; the addition of clay creates a brown or yellow Jasper.
Jasper is found worldwide,  It has been used for jewelry and ornamentation since Paleolithic times.
Red Jasper is said to be a stone that enhances physical strength and energy and may help increase one’s endurance and stamina.
It is known to be a stabilizing stone and can serve to help stabilize one’s own energies if worn or carried, leading to good health and balanced emotions.
Picture or Landscape Jasper is said to help one connect closer with the earth’s energies.
 
Lapis Lazuli is a sodium aluminum silicate consisting of lazurite, pyrite and calcite. It has a hardness of 5 – 6 and is found in Chile and Russia, but the finest Lapis Lazuli comes from the mountains of Afghanistan where the Sar-e-Sang mine deposits have been worked for over 6000 years. The area is so remote and treacherous that equipment cannot be brought in. Mining is done using only dynamite and hand tools and each day’s findings must be carried down on the backs of the miners to the small village below. 
To the Buddhists of antiquity, lapis lazuli brought peace of mind and equanimity, and was good for dispelling evil thoughts. It is the stone of the spiritual seeker and student, stimulating one’s desire for knowledge and understanding. It can help one learn more effectively and is excellent for enhancing memory. 
Lapis is a stone of self-knowledge and reflection. It can help one move out of the mundane mind and into an expanded awareness of one’s motivations and beliefs.
 
Olive Shell (Olividae) is a type of sea snail. These small glossy gastropods are found in tropical and warm seas. Shaped liked pointed olives, they have been used for jewelry and as ornaments since prehistoric times. Each shell has its own shell color and design. This is due to a dye the animal secretes continuously over its lifetime.

Pearls, Freshwater - There are many factors that set the freshwater variety of pearl apart from the saltwater. Freshwater pearls are produced by mussels in lakes and ponds around mainland China, whereas the saltwater pearls are produced by oysters in oceans.  The mussels that grow freshwater pearls are extremely durable and are capable of producing pearls in much harsher conditions that that of saltwater oysters. Although there are many differences between these varieties nothing may separate them more than the fact that one freshwater mussel can produce up to 40 pearls in just one harvest where as saltwater oysters can produce just one.  Historically, pearls represent purity, faith, charity and innocence. The pearl has been known as a “stone of sincerity”, bringing truth to situations and loyalty to a cause.  The pearl has been used in the treatment of digestive disorders, and to increase fertility and ease childbirth.
Keshi Pearls are irregularly shaped pearls that have grown without a nucleus which normally would determine the shape of a pearl.  As a result, Keshi Pearls consist entirely of nacre which is the iridescent coating formed on all pearls.
 
Rose Quartz is a silicon dioxide crystal with a hardness of 7. It is found in Brazil, Madagascar and the USA.  Rose Quartz is the quintessential stone of love… for oneself, humanity and the universe as a whole. It is said to help dissolve one’s boundaries of isolation and mistrust and may help to heal the heart and reawaken trust. A good stone to give as a talisman of love, Rose Quartz stones can spread compassion and gentle understanding.  It can be calming for the mind, assisting one in releasing worry, fear, anxiety and past emotional trauma.
 
Rudraksha is a large evergreen broad-leaved tree whose seed is traditionally used for prayer beads. Malas made with Rudraksha seeds are used by Hindus, Sikhs & Buddhists as a rosary as early as the 10th century and onwards for meditations purposes and to sanctify the mind, body & soul.

Sandalwood is the name of a class of fragrant woods from trees in the genus Santalum.  As an incense, Sandalwood has been used for at least 4000 years.  It is one of the most calming scents and preferred for meditation.  It calms the mind, enhances mental clarity.  Indigenous to South India.  Keep sealed to preserve fragrance. 
 
Smoky Quartz is a silicon dioxide mineral with a hardness of 7 and is found in many countries, including Brazil, Australia, Madagascar, Switzerland and the USA. 
Smoky Quartz is one of the premier grounding stones. It enhances practicality and organization and can also help to lend focus to students and patience to teachers.  It can offer protection from negative energies in one’s environment by absorbing and neutralizing negativity.  Smoky Quartz may help to increase our tolerance of stress, assisting one to cope more easily with hard times and do the work that has to be done.  It may have a relaxing effect, taking away the tendency to allow ourselves to be stressed.  Smoky Quartz may have a pain-alleviating effect.
 
Spiny Oyster Shell (Spondylus princeps) is a type of bivalve molusk which is found along the western coasts of Mexico and Central and South America.
The Spondylus shell has been important to Andean peoples since pre-Columbian times, serving as offerings to the Pachamama (Mother Earth).  
The Spondylus shell was also used in ceremonial offering and became a primary cross-cultural currency. The early Ecuadorian people traveled hundreds of miles by sea in their balsawood boats and traded the Spondylus shell with cultures in Central America and Pacific Mexico.
 
Turquoise is a copper aluminum phosphate mineral with a hardness of 5 – 6. The name Turquoise is derived from the French pierre turquoise, meaning “Turkish stone”. This is because the trade routes through which Turquoise reached Europe from the mines in central Asia went through Turkey, and Venetian merchants often bought the stone in Turkish bazaars. 
Turquoise may be the longest-used of all gemstones. Beads dating back to 5000B.C. have been found in Iraq. The best quality Turquoise stones come from Iran, Afghanistan, Australia, Tibet, Mexico and the southwestern USA. 
Turquoise is known to be a stone for finding wholeness and truth. It is beneficial to overall well-being and soundness of one’s mood and emotions. It is balancing and induces a sense of serenity and peace. Turquoise represents the wisdom that comes from all of life’s experiences. It is a stone for self-forgiveness, self-acceptance and the release of useless regrets.
 
Tourmaline - There are 11 species in the tourmaline group including rubellite (pink), indicolite (blue) and verdelite (green). Although many of its transparent varieties are valued as gems, most tourmaline is dark and opaque. 
Tourmaline can be used to attract inspiration, to diminish fear by promoting understanding and to encourage self-confidence. It has been used by shamen among the African, Native American and Aboriginal tribes. It is thought to bring healing powers to the user and to provide protection from all dangers occurring on the physical plane. 
Pink Tourmaline is a powerful calming stone that can calm the emotions and the physical body. Green Tourmaline is a powerful healing stone helping to calm the nervous system and emotions and facilitating the proper flow of healing energy through the body. It is useful in countering fear of change, bringing an invigorating energy of growth and expansion to the emotional body.
